For people who cannot fall asleep, wake at 3:00 AM, or want a non-habit-forming alternative to sleep medications. Sleep support delivered through the skin, gradually, all night long.

Patched Up Smart Sleep Patches deliver a blend of melatonin, magnesium, L-tryptophan, 5-HTP, valerian root, and hops flower via transdermal delivery rather than pills. They are designed for people who struggle to fall asleep, those who wake in the early hours and cannot get back to sleep, and anyone seeking steady overnight sleep support without pills, sedatives, or morning grogginess.

Fall asleep faster. Stay asleep longer. Wake up feeling clear-headed.

Smart Sleep Patches combine calming nutrients and amino acids to support your natural sleep rhythm, without pills, grogginess, or habit-forming ingredients. Transdermal delivery ensures steady overnight absorption, promoting calm, consistent rest.

Why These Ingredients?

These naturally calming compounds support multiple sleep pathways without harsh sedatives or morning grogginess:

  • Melatonin (5 mg): regulates your internal clock and helps you fall asleep
  • Magnesium (3 mg, as magnesium malate): promotes muscle relaxation and supports neurotransmitter balance
  • L-Tryptophan (3 mg): converts to serotonin and melatonin, helping you unwind
  • 5-HTP (1 mg): a serotonin precursor that supports deeper sleep
  • Valerian Root (5 mg): a traditional herb that helps ease nerves and tension
  • Hops Flower (4 mg): complements valerian to improve sleep depth and continuity

Frequently Asked Questions

How is this different from taking a melatonin tablet?

Melatonin tablets cause a sharp spike in melatonin within an hour of taking them, and levels clear from the body within a few hours. They are effective for falling asleep, but they do not help with staying asleep through the night. Smart Sleep Patches deliver melatonin gradually through the skin throughout the night, alongside complementary ingredients such as L-tryptophan, 5-HTP, valerian, and hops. The result is a steady backdrop of sleep support rather than a single dose that peaks early and runs out before morning.

Will I wake up groggy in the morning?

Most people do not. The patch is designed to release ingredients gradually overnight rather than deliver a high concentration up front, so the support fades naturally as morning approaches rather than carrying over into the day. The doses themselves are also moderate, enough to support sleep, not so much as to oversedate. If you find yourself feeling groggy on waking, try applying the patch earlier in the evening (1 to 2 hours before bed rather than right at bedtime), or switch to half a patch.

Can the patch help if I wake up at 3 AM?

This is one of the main reasons we built the patch the way we did. Oral melatonin tablets are mostly cleared from the body within a few hours, so they do not help with early-morning waking caused by cortisol surges, blood sugar dips, and falling melatonin levels. Transdermal patches release gradually throughout the night, so the support remains active during the 3:00 AM window, when your body's own sleep signals are at their weakest. We have written a full piece on this: Why You Wake Up at 3:00 AM.

Are Smart Sleep Patches habit-forming?

No. The ingredients in the patch (melatonin, magnesium, L-tryptophan, 5-HTP, valerian, and hops) are not habit-forming and do not carry the dependency risks associated with prescription sleep medications such as benzodiazepines or zolpidem. You can use the patch as often or as little as you need. Some people use it nightly during stressful periods, others only when they sense a difficult night ahead, and others purely for the early-morning waking window. There is no requirement to use it daily.

When should I apply the patch, at bedtime or earlier?

Apply the patch 1 to 2 hours before bed to give the ingredients time to start working. The exact timing is worth experimenting with. Applied too early, the effect may start to fade in the early hours. Applied right at bedtime, you may feel the onset later than ideal. Most people find a sweet spot around an hour before they want to be asleep. Once you have found yours, stick with it.

Can I cut a patch in half?

Yes. Some customers prefer to use half a patch, either to start with a lower dose, to wear it for a shorter time, or to keep the spare half on hand for early-morning waking. If you cut a patch, apply one half at bedtime and keep the other half sealed and accessible at your bedside. If you wake at 3:00 AM and struggle to get back to sleep, applying the second half then can help carry you through to morning.

Can children use Smart Sleep Patches?

Yes, with modified use. For children aged 4 to 8 years, cut the patch in half or limit wear time to 4-6 hours. For those aged 9 to 13 years, one full patch may be well tolerated, depending on size and sensitivity. For teens, one full patch is typically appropriate. Always monitor for drowsiness or sensitivity, and consult a healthcare provider if you are unsure. The patch can be a useful alternative for children who resist taking oral supplements.

Can I wear more than one patch a night?

Yes, absolutely. If one patch isn't quite enough, try two. Some customers use two a night, or apply a second if they wake in the middle of the night and struggle to fall back asleep. If you find that two a night works well for you, email us at hello@patchedup.com.au and let us know. We'll sort out a discount so that using two a night doesn't cost you double. This offer is for customers who've bought our Sleep patches.

Sleep patches still not working?

Before you give up on them, there's one more thing worth trying. Some customers have found that combining a Vitamin B12 patch with the Sleep patch works really well. The reason is that B12 at night helps your body make more of its own melatonin, and for some people, particularly those who are low in B12, that missing piece makes all the difference.

I wear a B12 patch every day anyway, so I get this benefit myself.

If this might be you, email us at hello@patchedup.com.au, tell us the sleep patches haven't worked for you, and we'll send you a code for 60% off the Vitamin B12 patches so you can try the combination. This offer is for customers who've bought our Sleep patches.

Additional sleep strategies using the patches

Something a few people have found really helpful, together with the patches, is wearing a sleep mask.

  • Waking in the night with the mask already on makes it easy to fall back asleep.
  • Going to bed without it, then waking up, makes it much harder to fall back asleep, even if the mask goes on then.
  • I wonder whether complete darkness all night allows the patch's ingredients to work together much better?

It won't suit everyone, but if you're a light sleeper or you wake in the early hours, a comfortable sleep mask worn from the start of the night is well worth a try.

Nice concept but sadly not effective

I really like the idea of sleep patches but unfortunately i got no benefit. I was taking 4mg of melatonin every night and getting poor but acceptable sleep. I wanted to swap out 2mg for the patch which has 5mg but i don’t think absorption through the skin is anywhere near as effective. Back on just the tablets

Smart Sleep Patches

I am pleased with these patches. The melatonin does not leave a groggy sensation like tablets so I am much more confident using these patches. They help me to fall asleep so I will be ordering more. Thank you!

Helpful

I don't use them every night but they appear to assist my sleep. I have found when using these that when I wake during the night I fall back to sleep after waking.
They don't irritate my skin which is a plus.

Impressed with new patches

These new patches work well with the B12 patches. I always get a better sleep with these two in combo.
